Please insist on first-hand referrals only. Immigration is one area where vague recommendations can waste time and money very quickly.
Also ask what exact case type the lawyer handled. A lawyer who was great for student visas may not be the best fit for family or long-term residence matters.
I would shortlist two or three and compare how clearly they explain process, timelines, and fees. The communication style matters almost as much as the recommendation itself.
For sensitive issues like this, I would only trust referrals from people who can say, "I used them myself" or "they helped my family directly." Community topics move faster when the answer is specific and accountable.
The thread is useful, but the real value usually comes when someone says, "Call this person and mention this group." That is where diaspora trust becomes practical.
