If you want proper waakye on the weekend, check the places around Silver Spring and Hyattsville first. The best spots are usually not the most polished ones, but the food is much closer to home.
For family outings, I would separate everyday food spots from celebration spots. There are two places in the DMV that are strong for fufu but only one I would take older relatives to without worrying about seating or wait times.
Also ask around church communities. The best kelewele sellers I know in DC are usually shared by word of mouth long before they show up on Instagram.
One thing that helped me was choosing convenience over hype. Being near Takoma or another area with actual community movement made the first few months easier than chasing the 'best' place on paper.

If the question is practical, I would start with DMV church groups before anything else. In my experience, those groups share honest advice faster than public posts, especially when housing, groceries, or church communities are involved.
