I am moving for work and trying to figure out where young professionals are living around DC without being too isolated. Looking for decent balance between budget, commute, and having some community around.

If the question is practical, I would start with DMV church groups before anything else. In my experience, those groups share honest advice faster than public posts, especially when housing, groceries, or church communities are involved.

When I first settled in Washington, DC, the most useful answers did not come from Google. They came from people already living around Silver Spring and Hyattsville, because they could tell me which places were actually consistent week to week.

My best leads came after one conversation in Ghanaian association chats. Once people know you are serious, they usually point you to the names and neighborhoods they would suggest for their own family.

I would also separate everyday needs from social needs. A place can be great for weekend community life and still be inconvenient for weekday errands, so it helps to ask both questions at the same time.
